Week in Review: The Birthday Edition

Hey, friends! Can’t talk long today. I’m getting ready for my…(guess what)…birthday party!

Yup. Yesterday I turned 24. I received lots of birthday wishes from colleagues at the Y who had figured out it was my birthday, as well as cards and Facebook wishes from friends and family.DSCN1738I also helped some guests of the YMCA get their luggage to the airport shuttle, delivered three enormous packages, collected recycled activity guides and lots of keys, delivered more fans to more cabins, re-cleaned a three bedroom cabin at the guest’s request, and composed a birthday poem while I was driving around the Y. It goes like this.

It’s my birthday once more,

and I’m already bored

with being asked where I go to high school

when I’m actually 24.

summer 16 at Crown PubSigh.

I came back after work to discover a wonderful birthday surprise: my boyfriend was cleaning my apartment! It looks so nice, all ready for the party and for my new roommate to move in. I told him he wins the awesome boyfriend award. Spending time with him was the best birthday present I could have asked for. ❤︎

The second best was the new A/C compressor in my car.

Other highlights of the week included:

Finishing The Secret Life of Bees.

Working my last day at the ice cream cart. ?DSCN1695Walking up to Overlook Chapel with my boyfriend and showing him the incredible views of Long’s Peak and Rocky Mountain National Park. (Objects in photo are much larger than they appear.)DSCN1730Posting a delicious gluten-free, low-FODMAP recipe for Mile-High Ratatouille Pie to the blog.DSCN1712 (2)Going to see Star Trek: Beyond. It was terrible. The thing about being a Star Trek fan, though, is that you love it even though inevitably sometimes it’s terrible.

Thanks, as always, to Meghan for my favorite weekly linkup. More details from my birthday party to come on Wednesday.DSCN1740Wishing all my readers a wonderful week–stay cool!

  1. Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a wonderful week with the perfect boyfriend. Any man who cleans is a winner in my book.

Thanks, Ellie! Fortunately, I do already have insurance.

  4. Happy belated birthday, Joyce! Coming from a fellow girl – well, I guess I should say woman – who’s a little over being considered a teen. Let’s hope this will really turn out beneficial for us in the future!
Keep that winner of a boyfriend around :). He’s a real sweetheart for cleaning your apartment.

    1. Joyce says:

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I’m definitely keeping this one 🙂

  5. Happy Belated! Don’t sweat being mistaken for a high school student… that will work in your favor when you’re older! Now I’m like “pleaseeeeeee card me!” HAHA!

    1. Joyce says:

I’m sure. The only “problem” is not being taken seriously at work or being treated like I don’t know what I’m doing.

  6. Cora says:

Happy Belated Birthday!!! Sorry for the delay. Sounds like you were treated just as you deserve – like a queen. I’m glad you were give the special treatment from your coworkers and friends. Tell your BF he gets massive brownie points AND a fist pump from me.
And that when you become a famous poet (because obviously you have a talent), you can hire a cleaner to take his place.

    1. Joyce says:

Thanks, Cora! I’ll tell him. I’m afraid even very famous poets don’t make a lot of money 😉 so maybe I’ll have to keep the boy around.
