WIAW: A Day in the Life of a Hungry Caterpillar

7:00 am: Wake up hungry. Debate whether more tired or more hungry. Go back to sleep because my plane from Kansas got in late last night and I know I’ll want the sleep.

8:37 am: After some weird dreams, decide I should probably get out of bed.

Breakfast (9:00 am): Green smoothie (frozen banana, almond milk, flaxseed, spinach; recycled photo) followed by oat bran cereal topped with pecans, cinnamon, and cane sugar syrup.DSCN0296 (2)DSCN19209:00 – 11:30 am: Release student grades for a recent assignment, send a number of emails related to my thesis and my communications internship, do a careful first reading of two drafts up for workshop in my creative nonfiction course, drink green teaDSCN1921 DSCN1922Elevensies (11:30 am): gluten-free pretzels, strawberry kefirDSCN1923 12:00-12:45: Pack bags, ride bicycle to CSU campus

12:45 – 1:45: Spin class. I tried a new class called “Ride & Define” that involved upper body strength exercises with small weights. Hard but fun!DSCN19261:45: Shower

Lunch (2:00 pm): Sandwiches on gluten-free multigrain bread rounds from the farmers’ market topped with homemade pesto, sliced local tomato, and Swiss cheeseDSCN19282:00 – 4:00 pm: Re-read drafts for workshop and write marginal and end comments, finalize draft of a short exercise for my creative nonfiction course, check and respond to emails

4:00 – 6:50 pm: Class

Snack (5:45 pm): Walnuts and dried cranberriesDSCN19296:50 – 8:30 pm: Arrange interview with my professor for the English department blog, stop by my office to re-pack my bags, ride my bike home, attempt to make what I think will be a simple supper and what turns into a rather messy affair

Supper (8:30 pm): Sauteed potatoes and beets, chicken breast with homemade raspberry maple chipotle barbecue sauceDSCN19318:45 – 9:15: Write most of this post. That’s fast for me, friends. Check and respond to emails while photos are loading.

9:30 – 10:30 pm: Clean kitchen, make bed (I have a weird thing about always making my bed at some point during the day, even if it’s really late), unpack suitcase from weekend trip, write check for internet bill

Snack (10:30 pm): Vanilla ice creamDSCN193310:30 – 11:15 pm: Read for class tomorrow

11:15 – 11:30: Finish writing this post, bed

Thanks, as always, to Jenn, Laura, and Arman for the ever-popular WIAW link-up.

Do you ever wake up and have to decide if you’re more hungry and need to get up and eat or more sleepy and ought to stay in bed?

How often do you check you email?

Your dinner looks great to me!!
I typically don’t wake up hungry – I guess I eat late or my body doesn’t wake up until my stomach wakes up! I love vanilla ice cream – the best, simple dessert. And I check email neurotically – many many times a day.

Kind of an inevitable consequence of modern life for students and working people alike. 😛

Yes, I do wake up sometimes really tired and hungry, but usually the sleep wins out… 🙂 I love how you sprinkle eats and snacks throughout the day; my body always does better on snacks rather than big meals. 🙂

Mine too-with my IBS, big meals really make me feel funky.

  3. Oh my gosh… that dinner! I need all of it in my life. I love BBQ anything!

    1. Joyce says:

I love barbecue too. Maybe it’s because I grew up about 40 miles from Kansas City. 😉

I often have the debate of whether I’m more tired or hungry. In the evening for me, mostly.
You are busy professional lady. Sounds like the year has started off in full swing.
